About Art Matters
Art Matters is Concordia’s Fine Arts festival that has created platforms for undergraduate artists studying at the university since 2000. Taking place in March every year, Art Matters hosts exhibitions and events across Montreal. Art Matters is looking to engage a graphic designer and web programmer to begin work on the 2018 festival.

HIRING — GRAPHIC DESIGNER

Eligibility
-Candidates must be registered undergraduate students at Concordia University, with International Students remaining eligible.
-Candidates must possess experience with or extensive knowledge of the Art Matters Festival.
-Candidates must possess a strong command of Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator
-Candidates must be able to dedicate approximately 5hrs/week from July 2017-March 2018, aside from an intensive period in January 2018, of up to 15 hrs/week, at which time the festival catalogue is developed.
-Experience in the design of a publication is an asset
-Experience with web design is not required

Compensation and Support
-the graphic designer is paid in four increments over the contract’s duration, in a projected total of a $4250 honorarium.
-the graphic designer is unfortunately not provided office space nor software
-the graphic designer is offered Cloud storage and ongoing communication with the festival’s coordinating team
-the graphic designer will be invited to participate in workshops, events, and summits with other team members

Description
-the contract of this position extends from July 2017-April 2018.
-the graphic designer will develop aesthetic proposals for the festival over the course of Summer 2017, entailing proposals, palettes, and some design mock-ups, that may or may not build off of the festival’s current visual identity
-the graphic designer will develop 1-2 posters per month from September 2017-April 2018 and corresponding social media banners
-the graphic designer will propose and design the annual exhibition catalogue of the festival in January 2018, with the assistance of an Editor
-the graphic designer will develop informative pamphlets and some merchandise throughout the year
-the graphic designer will create a large scale poster template to be used by various curators of the Art Matters Festival
-the graphic designer will respect deadlines, communicate reliably, and participate in occasional group meetings with the festival team
-the graphic designer will communicate with the web programmer to provide some images and creative input as the website is updated through the year

Eligibility
-Candidates need not be current students at Concordia University, though such candidates may be prioritized
-Candidates should have experience with CMS websites (e.g. Wordpress) or server-side language, as well as HTML/CSS/Javascript
-Candidates should expect to dedicate 5-10hrs/week or 10-20hrs/week (depending on their level of experience) from July 2017-October 2017, and be available for up to 5-10hrs/month from November 2017-April 2018 (depending on their level of experience).
-Experience with graphic design or visual arts is an asset

Compensation and Support
-Candidates will receive a $1000 honorarium in November 2017 following the successful completion of the website’s redesign, as well as two additional honorariums of $250 in February and April 2018, for a total honorarium of $1500.
-Candidates will unfortunately not be provided office space, equipment, nor software
-Candidates will be supported by the ongoing communication of the festival’s outreach coordinator and graphic designer, including the availability of images, text, and designs to be featured on the website
-the web programmer will be invited to participate in workshops, events, and summits with other team members

Description
-the contract of this position extends from July 2017-April 2018, with the majority of the work completed in Summer 2017 and compensated in Fall 2017.
-the web programmer will redesign the current Art Matters website into a CMS structured website (e.g. Wordpress) that will permit the festival’s coordinators easy access to updating and managing the website.
-the web programmer will make creative decisions reflecting the visual identity of Art Matters in redesigning the website within the framework of a template or theme
-the web programmer will assist the festival’s coordinators in the design of two application interfaces, using previous interfaces as models
-the web programmer will input images and text of the 2017 festival to the existing Art Matters web archive
